_______

I made Astrid Hofferson’s outfit from How to Train Your Dragon 2.

These are the pictures I used to go off of.

After looking it over and many referrals, I drew this up to show the pieces of the outfit.

Astrid’s outfit has 13 pieces, consisting of fur, leather, jean, cloth and metal (aluminum foil).

The pieces are as follows:

*A red cotton tee-shirt with 3 snaps down the back

*A pair of dark blue skinny jeans with leather patches on the knees

*A fur mini skirt with 10 leather strips surrounding it. The leather strips have 4 metal spikes running vertical down the center and a skull adorning the top of each

*Two metal shoulder guards, with 5 metal spikes on each of the 5 telescoping pieces.

*A warn fur hood with a large metal ring connecting at the front and a skull on each side of the ring.

*A pair of leather lace boots

*A pair of by-colored fur boot covers/leg warmers

*A pair of fingerless fur gloves tied with leather straps

*A leather headband

*A metal/wood battle axe with leather and fur accents

This is the first time I drafted my own pattern. I used paper towels to make my patterns, and I think it worked very well.

Here are the pieces cut out and ready to go.

The sewing.

____________

This is my entry for The Doll Wardrobe's 2014 Winter Fashion Design Challenge.

A bit about the outfit:
My family isn't into the candy part (collecting or handing out)
of halloween, but I like dressing up my dolls anyway.
For this challenge, I made my #11, named Shayna,
a minion costume (sort of re-imagined for practical reasons).

Right before I learned what the theme would be for this challenge, I was planning on making either a Vanellope Von Schweetz outfit or a Minion outfit. At that point I didn't have all the things I'd need to do Vanellope's outfit, so I decided on a Minion.

Once again I made most of the accessories before attempting the outfit. I was originally going to make a hat instead of the goggles, but it kind of made itself, so to speak... I saw the pieces and had it together pretty quickly. The pillow squares I actually cut out while making a different project, but I liked how they cut out so well I decided to make a dolly pillow with them. The skirt and shirt were really easy to do, and I even found some yellow lace to dress up the shirt a bit. I think the hardest part of making this set was finishing the quilt (sewing the layers together), because I didn't really know what I was doing.

The outfit is complete! It was really windy today, but I managed to get some good pictures anyway. The indoor pictures are from a few days ago.
