1) Outfit design

My outfit is inspired by Disney’s Princess Merida. 

This is a modern take inspired by her outfits from the movie Brave.  

I came across this jacket and I loved the scalloped edge, I also knew I wanted to incorporate the detailing of the sleeves as well as a plaid infinity scarf. The outfit would consist of top, jeans, coat and a scarf with a modern take on Merida’s style. I wanted the outfit to reflect Merida’s place she lived and go along with the color scheme of her outfit’s in the movie.  Another piece from the movies I wanted to include was the bear pendant. 

2) Outfit in process of being created

 For the top I used a Liberty Jane T-shirt pattern and modified it to re-create the sleeves on her dress, I used the light blue and cream fabric.

For the jacket I used a dark navy blue fabric and modified a simplicity 18in doll clothes pattern. To recreate the scalloped jacket I found a scallop edge and then resized, printed and taped to the pattern. To add detail to the jacket I found these really cute buttons that reminded me off the bear pendent, they aren’t an exact match but come close.  

To create the infinity scarf I used the plaid green and frayed the edges and then sewed the ends to make an infinity scarf. 

I made the jeans out of olive green denim and used a Simplicity 18in doll clothes pattern. I topstitched along the seams in dark green to add contrast. 

Here is a picture of sewing the buttonholes. 

Originally I had a bright green button but decided it did not go as well with the color scheme so I changed them to the current ones.
