__________

For the Winter Fashion Design Competition we were challenged to make a Character outfit. Since I am a big fan of Monster High and Ever After High and they are both dolls and characters, I sat down and looked at my dolls and tried to consider which of my American Girls could pull off being one of these characters.

Of the five American Girls I have my custom Pre-Mattel Samantha that I renamed Rose Hathaway, seemed to fit becoming a Monster the best. With her dark hair and eyes she could become Draculara from Monster High.

I had some shopping to do to make her Draculara. I needed fishnets and in the Halloween section I found fingerless elbow length fishnet gloves that I sewed into a pair of American Girl Fishnet Pantyhose, and she needed Pink highlights. I do own a set of the American Girl colored highlights, but I needed to cut some for her bangs and I didn't want to cut my American Girl ones. I found some that worked the same in the Halloween costume supplies and got two packs. One set went into her hair where her pony tails sat and one set were put in her bangs and cut. She has a replacement wig, not an original as I got this doll second hand so the wig she has worked really well it is a bit darker that the original Samantha wig, and straight.

For her boots, I can not make high heels and the American Girl proportions are much different so her boots are a high combat boot. I modified the Miche Combat boot pattern to use fabric, and added the strap details and a crystal heart to the tongue. The eyelets are embroidered on and the shoe laces have aglets made from glue. The American Girl version had to be flat and shorter to see some of her leg since a Monster High doll leg is much longer and is actually out of proportion on purpose.

The skirt I used a mix of the LJC pleated skirt and the Harajuku Station since she had pleats and a tulle ruffle. Again, the American Girl version had to be longer. Her legs are normal.

The top I started from the Trendy Tee pattern, however, I used woven fabrics and I adjusted, The parts are actually reversed, and I lined it. I also forgot to take photo's of it beyond the pattern pieces I drew. I used the cartoon as a reference and I made the front from four pieces, added the points, etc. I adjusted the sleeve length for the cuff and ruffles. I glued a flat back heart gem to the neckline. Draculara's Birthday is February 14 and she loves things with hearts. I used the same fabric in her top and boots.

To complete the look I made her pink heart by coloring a mailing label with permanent marker and allowing it to dry, then cutting her heart and applying it. The fangs are cut from mailing label. My doll doesn't have pierced ears, but Draculara does, so I made her some stick on safety pin earrings.
